PSA: Parents You are Doing Great!
Hi there parents!
This post is a little different than my usual posts. I wanted to take some time to tell you that you are doing enough! You’re a wonderful parent and are doing the best that you can.
We are dealing with uncertain times and cannot possibly play every single role, at the same time. You have taken on being a parent, a peer, a teacher, a chef, a cleaner, and endless other roles during this pandemic for your children.
I want to let you know that it’s okay if you need a break. It’s okay if you need to give your children “busy tasks.” It’s okay if you need to ask for help. It’s okay if you need to take a day off to catch up on chores and errands. It’s okay if you feel overwhelmed. These are unprecedented times and no one knows how to handle this. You are doing your best!
Taking a break is much needed for everyone. You deserve it!
I’ve listed some ways that you can take a break below:
Hide out in your washroom for a 15 minute break
Have a glass of wine while looking at Instagram in your pantry
Pretend you’re on a Zoom call so no one enters your office space, but secretly watch TV shows that you want to watch
Play the quiet game with your kids! See who can be quiet for the longest time
Play the sleeping game with your kids. Whoever sleeps for the longest time gets to choose where to get takeout
You do not need to be superhuman, you can take a break.
I’ve worked with so many parents and I’ve never come across a parent that does not want the best for their child. When a parent takes a break, the child doesn’t view a break as negative or a weakness. Make breaks a positive outcome in your households. Take a break when you need and let your children take breaks as they require too. It’ll help everyone be calmer and relaxed.
Again, you are doing your best!
